Description
The Extreme Series was designed with easy installation in mind. The Extremes and the SC Series do not require an HVAC-R technician for installation. There are three different versions of our extreme units:
- Extreme tiR fully ducted (FD): This product is intended for fully ducted installations. Fully ducted units are for customers who don’t want to see their unit in the cellar. The duct plenums for the evaporator and condenser will be included with your purchase. This unit also comes with a KDT Plus remote controller and thermostat. The controller can be mounted outside the cellar, allowing you to monitor your cellar temperature without needing to enter. The controller can be mounted up to 50 feet away from the Extreme unit.
NOTE: If you are planning to place this unit in the attic and use ducting, please contact our sales team for pricing. You may not need ducting equipment for the condenser side of the system.
- Extreme tiR Self Contained: This product is intended for through-the-wall installations. It is an “upgrade” to the Extreme ti because it uses the KDT Plus remote controller and thermostat. The duct plenums for the evaporator and condenser can be purchased separately. The controller can be mounted outside the cellar, allowing you to monitor your cellar temperature without needing to enter. The controller can be mounted up to 50 feet away from the Extreme unit.
NOTE: If this unit will be installed through an exterior wall, you will need to purchase an exterior housing to protect the unit. If this unit will be installed through an interior wall, the hot air exhaust may be redirected to another location using the condenser ducting plenum kit.
- Extreme ti: This product functions in the same way as the tiR and is intended for through-the-wall installation. The difference between the ti and tiR is that the controller and display will be located on the front face of the unit. In order to monitor your cellar conditions, you will need to physically enter your cellar.

While constructing my new cellar, I selected a SC Pro Series unit for the ease of installation and affordable price point. I became concerned that the ventilation room would get too hot and the unit wouldn’t function properly. After consulting Client Services, they recommended that I go with the Extreme ti that would be able to accommodate higher temperature fluctuations, despite the increase in price. Glad I took their advice! The unit operates well even during the hottest summers. Worth every penny!

The WhisperKool 3500Ti unit was simple in concept to install, but since mine was inserted through the wall just a few inches below the 10′ ceiling, in practice it was a bit more difficult requiring two guys and a frontend loader. It’s just a little too heavy for two guys to carry up ladders. The fit and finish were great though. It has been in operation now for a while, and is maintaining a consistent temperature. It took less than 24 hours to get not only the air temperature but also the wine temperature down to my set-point. While the unit uses a bottle probe to maintain temperature, I am also tracking the air temperature and RH with a separate device from Govee just so I can track temperature variations in the room itself.
I am disappointed with the sound level. The manual states the sound level at 51 dBA both inside and outside the cellar on low speed. In practice, I am getting an average of 71 dBA inside and 66 dBA outside the cellar with the fan on low. That’s a significant difference.
The manual is accurate in stating that a lower fan speed will result in lower humidity. I saw a direct correlation when I reduced the fan speed from high to low after the initial 18 hour cellar cool down period. The RH dropped from 68.5% to 62.5% in just over an hour.
In retrospect, I should have opted for a ducted unit for less in-cellar noise. However, our cellar isn’t a tasting room, so we can live with it.

This is my 3rd WhisperKOOL wine refrigeration unit since 2005 and by far the BEST and QUIETEST.
Forget the 1600 and 3000 — and go directly to the “extreme 3500 ti” — if you can afford it.
Fits in the same opening and far, far superior to the others units. Doesn’t cycle so often or make as much noise

WhisperKOOL Customer Service
We installed a WhisperKOOL Extreme 3500ti in our new home. The unit started making a whistling noise. I called WhisperKOOL customer support and they were excellent to deal with. Sent a new unit to exchange ours, and all turned out great!

We could not be happier with this unit
After 90 + days, we could not be happier with this unit. It’s a quieter, more efficient, significant upgrade from our old Whisperkool unit. It handles the wider range of external temperature exceptionally well and was really easy to install.

Have been using the Whisper cool 3000 for 15yrs. The 3500 is a much better engineered product and believe it does a far more efficient job of keeping our wines in a proper environment.

No Issues. Works wonderfully.
This is a quiet unit. It functions flawlessly. It looks attractive.

So far we love it!
Had one of the less expensive units but vented outside it just couldn’t perform in SoCal hot summers. This one seemed to do the trick with relative ease. Pretty easy to install and looks nice on both sides!
