Summer 2018 Preventative Maintenance Reminder

The heat is on! Summer is here, and it’s an excellent time to make sure your WhisperKOOL cooling system is inspected and cleaned to ensure optimum performance and reliability during the hot summer months. It's currently the peak season and HVAC-R technicians are busy and may be hard to schedule. However, it is still recommended that you hire a licensed technician to inspect your wine cooling system. Be proactive about preventative maintenance this summer—have a tech inspect and service your WhisperKOOL unit and your home’s air conditioning system simultaneously!

Maintenance reminders for self-contained systems

  • Clean the evaporator and condenser coils quarterly. To clean the coils, simply vacuum the front and rear grilles or coils.
  • Verify that all drain lines are free and clear of obstructions, and that the unit is draining properly.
  • For units sold after June 2017: Use the provided drain line brush to clear your unit’s drain line. Add pan tabs to drain pans to prevent the buildup of microbial growth.
  • Through-the-wall Extreme units have washable filters covering the coils behind the grille areas. These filters must be cleaned quarterly.
  • All ducted units come with paper air filters which must be replaced quarterly. To order filters, call the WhisperKOOL customer service department at 1-800-343-9463.

Maintenance reminders for split systems

  • Visually inspect the compressor/condensing unit for refrigeration leaks.
  • Remove debris from condensing coil and vacuum clean as needed.
  • Visually inspect the evaporator/air handler unit.
  • Clean the evaporator coil as needed.
  • Inspect ductwork for cracks or leaks.
  • The Platinum 4000, 8000, and Mini Split include a grille with a washable filter. Remove this grille. Remove the filter from the grille, wash the filter with soap and water, and allow it to dry thoroughly. (Ceiling Mount split systems do not have filters.)
  • For ducted split systems, replace the filter at the return register. (These filters are not provided by WhisperKOOL.)

REMINDER: The number-one challenge to optimum performance and efficiency during the summer season is inadequate ventilation. WhisperKOOL cooling units must have adequate ventilation to dissipate heat from the condenser portion of the system.
